Default Clunking Noise When I turn

Hi,

I have a 1990 Audi 90 that I just recently bought. The only problem it has is when I turn sharp that there is a clunking noise coming from the front left tire. It seems much more apparenent when I'm turning left though I've heard it when I go right also. Any ideas to what it is?

Thanks,
Nick

Well its pretty loud, definetely doesn't sound normal. How about my cv joints? I had that problem with my Audi 5k but it doesn't seem to affect my steering or breaking, just a noise that drive me crazy.

Howdy! Go underneath the car and make sure the bolts for the balljoint at the control arm are tight. They are underneath the control arm, very easy to spot, 17mm head, give those a good twist.

Cheers,

Default My clunk while truning was caused by deformed tie-rod mounting plate...

Also could be a really loose steering rack... these are two of the more exotic possibilities...

Default check bentley...shock insert moving

the manual tells that if you get the clunking noise when turning the wheels it is due to a loose shock insert in the front strut. Tighten the nut at the top of the shock and you should fix the problem.
