Unfortunately the clutch probably is packing up and ready to move. As far as I know there is no way to adjust our clutches, its hydraulic. You're looking at a pretty penny. My clutch/flywheel was 2600 bucks. I have FWD too, I have heard the quattro is a lot harder to replace. Maybe I am wrong, but I'd start shopping. Someone on ebay has been selling a sachs clutch for the 90 for like 299, which is a really good price. Find yourself a used flywheel, if you need one, and you'll end up just paying labor, which is a good thing, as mechanics make "2 profits." One on parts, one on labor. I'd recommend putting up a post if you live in the states of anyone near you knows of a real good audi mechanic. This isn't a car to take to the local gas station.
Good luck!

Could be hydraulic problem. The clutch assemblies on Audi's are "over-engineered" and usually last quite a long time! The hydraulics, however is another story.......
Your clutch needs to be closely "inspected" to verify exactly what its problem is.
To R&R the clutch disk, requires the entire gearbox to come out.
You may just need a new clutch slave or master cylinders? Gearbox doesnt need to come out for these.

when my clutch went on my 4kq, I called around to have it done. Highest estimate was about $800. I just decided to do it myself and only spent $290 for a Sachs clucth kit and $20 for a brake line that was all rusted and had to be broken off and replaced. Plus fluids(brake fluid and new fluid for the trans. diff.) It was alot of work though cuz the car was rusty as hell underneath.
