So I'm not an expert on this but I can share what I do know which might help:
Both cars should have the 01A transmission which is a good start.
And I do know that the complete clutch assembly from a 7A 20v (single-mass flywheel, sprung clutch disc and corresponding pressure plate) is a bolt-on deal for the 2.8L 12v to eliminate it's heavy dual-mass flywheel setup.
Here's where it gets tricky: I'm told that the 7A flywheel has a metal dowel which is used as an engine position pickup, and I think this is located on the engine or forward side of the flywheel, IE, ahead of the starter gear ring. For the V6 guys using a 7A setup, this dowel isn't needed for timing so we simply tap it out. So the 7A is easily "forward compatible" to the V6.
However, in your case I get the feeling the V6 flywheel doesn't have that dowel, so out of the box I don't think it's backwards-compatible to a 7A. Unless, you could perfectly identify the dowel position and have a shop replicate it.
Some food for thought: The V6 dual mass setup is heavy and considered a performance drawback (hence why some V6 guys such as myself look to go to the 7A setup). Are you trying to do a clutch on a budget, or just seeking out options?
If you are on a budget and having trouble finding options, it might be helpful to know that the 2.8L 30v V6 clutch setup is backwards-compatible to the 12v as the 30v added a 60-2 trigger wheel next to the starter gear ring. And good news is there are single-mass conversions available at a comparable price to a complete dual-mass kit. However, that still doesn't help with the dowel pin, and I think only a flywheel shop could assist with adding one.
If you're really on a budget, I see people sell 7A flywheels from time to time for about $130. I was able to grab a complete 7A setup a year or two ago for about $150 with a low miles clutch disc and pressure plate, so they are out there.
