Default Cold Start Problem

Can anyone please give me some ideas why I have a cold start problem on my 1990 2.0 coupe. Once it starts after much difficulty, it runs like new. I've checked the timing, and its fine.

Default Could be.....

Thermo-time switch, cold start valve, or even loss of residual fuel pressure when the car sits. The latter often causes hot start up problems too.

Well, to be honest it all started after I swapped the engine... Engine starts and runs fine when hot, but if it sits for more than 10 an hour, its all back to square one

Fuel pump check valve is also very possible.
