Default Converting Turbo to Supercharger????

You guys think it would be worth it to take the turbo off my 3B and put a supercharger in it's place? I could get some nice headers for the N/A 20v to replace the 3B manifold and turbo. I know it would work, since the engine is already forced induction. I want to get rid of the turbo lag and have cooler air going in (intercooled superchargers must run much cooler than any turbo. No exhaust heat). I can also turn up the boost with an underdrive pully. Much cheaper to tune than a turbo in my opinion. My worry would be the electronic boost control getting confused and causing limp mode (in the timing and Fuel injection). I know I can figure ways around that though. Just wondering what you guys think and maybe some suggestions on what type of supercharger to use. Thanks.

bad idea, a smaller turbine can reduce turbo lag and make more boost

Agreed, and it would cost less than a super sharger.

yup, but superchargers are less efficent, so either choice is preference.

you can pick up different turbos than that K24 for pretty cheap, cheaper than a new "half a turbo" type supercharger that would be needed...ever price a vortech? gettin close to $2k new...there are ways to reduce lag on a turbo. if you dont like lag, be glad you don't have the K26 from the older 10vt, bigger turbo, higher ult. boost, but more lag.

btw, is the IC mounted up yet?

Default Supercharge your turbocharger!

In all seriousness though (that was pretty much a joke), you'd definitely want to go with a vortech style supercharger. I priced those, and they were insanely expensive, like 2ish grand, and not much cheaper used. If I could do it over again, I definitely would've saved up and got one, we're still trying to figure out where to mount mine, and in what direction I'm going to run the intercooler....we think that we're going to go with the intercooler running up to the tray near the fusebox, and custom fab a glassfibre hood to properly air off the intercooler. I'm also going to use Javed's standalone ECU, so that I can eliminate the pain in the *** that the MAF would've caused. Anyways, I wish you luck....personally, I would change to a smaller turbine, and just work on the internals...I think it'll be cheaper, not to mention its all probably been done. Take it from me, the hardest part of this is not knowing exactly what'll happen...its kinda fun though ) Good luck...

Primo

If you complain about turbolag, don't consider a supercharger like the vortech. I haven't driven a car equipped with one, but have you seen the dyno charts of one of the installed on say a civic SI. Big power but all in the last 2000rpm. I would stick with a turbo but go with a properly sized ball ball bearing GT25.
