Could a faulty ignition switch cause VAG communication issues?

Default It wouldn't be my first suspect

and in fact we found it by accident, but in our case it was it.

I didn't read all the other threads, but the connector can often fail too. I'd probably look there first.

Default New switch, same problem. Also swapped out the clockspring

to replace one that was reading over resistance limit. I still can't connect to the airbag controller. Communications are hit ot miss with the other modules. K line voltage is running just about 11 volts. I'm stumped.
