you cant just "install a turbo" and drive off.
The turbo has special requirements, which need to be forfilled inorder for the engine to "survive" pass emission, etc. Ask Rob!
Installing a turbo on a non turbo Audi motor, is begging for troubles! ;o) Ask Alex? His caught on fire!
Installing the turbo Audi engine, complete, is the best method to accomplish the feat. Because the turbo engine is "engineered" to run the turbo.
Then there's the fueling, exhaust and other items to consider.
Ask BigMouse, he'll tell ya!

Lots-O-fun!

once the V6 is done of course.. which will make me the first person on this board that has done it.. I know its been done before.. I wonder how tough this is compared to the 5Cyl turbo engine swap?

10vt would be easier, as it retains the CIS injection. 20vt uses motronic injection, and real injectors, vs mechanical metering head at the airbox w/injector nozzles (lack of a better term) in the head.
10vt can be converted to EFI once you decided to break 2xxhp.
10vt is initially cheaper as well.

shouldn't make a difference in level of difficulty...quattro 1.8t's use a 240mm clutch, fwd 1.8t's use a 220mm. same as the older cars...quattro 1.8t's also use a different (240mm vs 220) flywheel. just gotta pick the right donor car is all (early non-drive by wire quattro A4 would be easiest to swap from).

Despite what everyone says I still think that going from a 2.8l V6 to a 1.8T is very backwards, even though the 1.8t has lots of "off the shelf" tuning potential and is a great engine. The V6 is a much more driveable engine, especially if you consider doing modifications beyond a simple chip. If you decide on a major power goal both will be expensive to modify, and you will still have an extra liter of displacement to start with the 2.8.
