Default CQ: Outer front driver's CV boot is bad, so do I just get a replacement boot for...

$18.95 or pay a lot more for BlauPart's Audi CV Joint Kit - Front Outer for $135.95? It is a 1991 CQ with ~156,000 miles on it. Anywhere else cheaper to get these parts? TIA!

CV Joint Boot Kit - $135

Default Replace the bad boot. Why make a project out of it?

We did both on my Coupe in 1.5 hours last week.

Default yeah, but how many have you done in your lifetime?

A simple CV boot job can turn to a 3-4hr job and real messy!!

Point taken. First time's a bitch, then they each take about an hour.

Default yeah much easier to do an entire axle.

then you know at least the axle is not bent, and both boots are ok and both ends. For the price too, much more recommended. Take like an hour to do a side with new axle.

I just do the boot. I don't see the time savings in wrestling with the whole axel.

Default Nope... special order part from AutoZone & Kragen. ~$120 + $60 core return.

They told me to go to the dealership if I wanted the half shaft. The boot itself was around $25, but that was also a special order part that would take 3-4 days to come in. Sounds like the concensus is to do the boot without the special Blau joint portion. Thanks all!
