It doesn't seem like it should have much of an effect either way. Is there something I'm missing ? It seems like unless you actually WANT to melt tyres you're better off putting half the horsepower through twice as many tyres.
You should have the same amount of friction at a given speed, regardless of how much power you have, so unless you're finally able to go 300 kph, rather than 200 with your 500 HP it shoudln't make a difference.
If you're worried about the power loss, surely losing an extra 3-5% of 500 HP can't be that bad.
