Does brake fluid in an unopened bottle go bad?

Default If the container is metal, no worries

If plastic, I wouldn't trust over 2 years.

Default An opaque glass bottle with a proper seal at the cap/lid would be ok.

The paper seal can absorb moisture, and allow it to be absorbed by the fluid.

SOME plastics can allow moisture through.

No plastic brake fluid bottle has a good enough sealing cap to them, even when the bottle is brand new. That is likely the main source for moisture to find its way where we don't want it.

Caps don't seal worth a poop on any metal or plastic brake fluid bottle. BTDT.

change your brake fluid that is in your car, and flush it every 2 years? ;O)
