I have the cap/bracket therefore no pump, what exactly is this pump in this location for?
Vehicles with vacuum pump
- Remove vacuum pump or end cover.
- Remove transfer flange.
- Disconnect vacuum pump piston from camshaft.
- Replace O-rings -A, -B-, -C- and -D-.
- Reinstall piston, transfer flange and vacuum pump.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
Vehicles without vacuum pump
- Remove bolts, spacer and cap locking device.
- Remove cap.
- Replace toroidal sealing ring.

...BTW there's an updated cap - which doesn't use the bracket - that old style was known for leaking.
I have a spare one if anyone needs one (the latest/updated part).

yeah, I have the old style and there is some dried oil around it. Is it a dealer item? PN#?
price?
without seeing a pic I am not sure how the new one would fit. I also take it that it comes with a new seal which is practically a no brainer.
I am always up for anything Audi upgrades that they do not see as "up to par".

...this is the spare one I have:

It just presses in - my '93 never had any issues from the time I replaced it until the time I sold it. My '95 already has the later revision part number.

it looks like just a rubber plug, what holds it in but alittle tension? maybe if your really worried you can still use the cross brace but I doubt it would fit. I guess in reality the pressure in the upper cylinders is not extreme enough to say blow it out so maybe just a big plug is all thats needed.

you just do an order, especially if you did an order where you get free shipping, and then you either forget to order something or not soon after the order something breaks or you decide to replace it...ugh I hate when that happens.
in this case I am better off just calling up the local dealer, even with shipping I might save a few bucks.
I gotta get ETKA one of these days, that really is one hell of a useful program.

...looks the same, and hasn't leaked since the car was new. The e-revision was phased in in 2001 (30V uses the same plug) - but like I said - the b-revision works just fine (over the original metal plug with the bracket).
