Default Electrical Problems 1996 Cabriolet

Hi,
I've searched around in the different forums and I haven't been able to find information about the problem of a consistent dead battery in my 1996 Cabriolet, so I hope someone can help me. I know I'll need to take my car to the dealer, but I hate to go in without a little information or a sense of what may be wrong.

The problem started when my husband bought the car. The car was his pride and joy; he kept it in the garage and took it out on the weekends in spring-fall. THe other times it stayed in the garage. He was careful to start it up so the battery stayed charged. At some point every time he wanted to use it the battery was dead. He figured out that the top was draining the battery so everytime he garaged it, he disconnected a wire in the trunk that powered the top.

My husband died in March of 2008 and I did not take the car out of the garage until July of 2009. I had the battery charged and made sure the wire in the trunk was disconnected. I drove the car to work for 2 weeks, but all of a sudden the power windows would not work. The next morning the car would not start - the battery was dead. The car has been sitting since then but I need to sell it and know I have a limited number of weeks to attract buyers that want a convertible. I can't sell the car knowing that there is a "creeping" electrical problem.

Can anyone direct me to articles in this forum that address electrical problems like this? Thanks in advance for any insight you may be able to offer me.

Have you replaced the battery. Im not an expert or anything but it may just have a dead cell. If thats not the case you may be looking at a bad alternater.
