Default Engine block painting question...

I'm in the process of cleaning the 20vt engine. I won't be completely dismantling and having it dipped so I want to know if there is any type of solution or spray to put on to allow better cleaning and then better adhesion of the high temp. engine block paint?

Thanks

Default Been there doing that...

Get all the rubber things and various doodads off the the engine, then buy a wire wheel for a drill. Using the wire wheel and lots and lots of brake cleaner, get all the rust off and clean up all the oil and gook and whatnot.

Default I used Gunk engine degreaser and a lot of rags!

Not much rust on the block. In fact, most of the original block paint was still there under the grease and grime.
