i have a 94 audi coupe 2.0 16v. the engine needs replacing so i was thinking of possible transplants. i am not in anyway a mechanic, so was hoping somebody point me in the right direction.
anyone know of any engine transplants that i can do? was looking at 1.8T (150bhp)or 2.3 20v (170bhp) ( from coupes around 93)but was wondering how difficult these would be to fit. what else would i need new apart from the engine itself? i figure exhaust, but what about g'box etc. will the 2.3 drop straight in being from the same car, or will it be trickier than that??
thanks
tom

if you really want to do something like that, find a rear-ended A4 and graft the engine harness/ECU, as well as the dash into the car. the new cars need the dash stuff to work. i wouldn't mess with putting a 7A in the car (2.3L 20v). it would be much more simple (the 2.0 16v and 2.3L 20v are almost identicle), however for the money you'd put in the 7A to get 210hp you could get 240 from the 1.8t. heck, why not find a 10vt from a 5000/200? a guy i know did that and is very happy with the results (his car is still CIS, but its mod'd, so its got great torque and over 200bhp). many options, just depends on how long you want your car on jack stands. rebuild the 2.0 would be the quickest, putting in a 7A would be "easy", the MC would be smartest (power wise), and the 1.8t would be interesting.
what ever swap you do, get the entire front end of the car the engine came from. will save you many trips to the wrecking yard, and many headaches.
oh, check to see what clutch you have, if its a 228mm, you'll need a 240mm with either of the 5cyl swaps (20v or 10vt). the 1.8t uses a 228mm, so no change needed. in a swap, the clutch is the least of your worries.
