Default Engine issues or electrical

I have a 1993 Audi 90CS. Was sitting at a light and the engine just died. Dash wasn't lit up at all. If you try to start the car the engine spins, but doesn't start. Has anyone had this problem? It seems i've lost the engine spark. Before I go spend thousands of dollars to have it checked out, any suggestions?

Yep, When you turn the key the engine tries to turn over.

The alternator belt was broken at the same time, but the Audi shop said that was just a coincidence and has nothing to do with this issue. All other belts are in place and ok.

Default Get the error codes. Sounds like it might be the speed sensor or

the crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. Those are sensors that when they fail, your engine won't fire. They seem to be failing on a lot of V6's lately. Could also be fuel pump or relay.

Default No...engine turns over, therefore t-belt is fine.

I'd bet a bad coil pack or crank/cam position sensor. Something along those lines.

Pull the codes, I am suspecting the crank position sensor. The symtoms sound a lot like the part has failed you.

Default If nothing lights up in the dash...

I would also have a look at your ignition switch. You might be able to crank the engine but ECU might not get any power.

Do you have to take it to the dealer to pull the codes on a 93? I looked into buying a obd2 but they only make them for 96 and above. Thank you
