Engine 'stumbles' when (non cold) A/C turned on
Hi guys. I picked up a really nice 90 CQ in Toronto this week, after not owning one for the last three years. I'll get some pics up when I get a chance to check the car over more thoroughly this weekend.
Today I was driving on the highway and when I turned the A/C on (which doesn't appear to work) the engine appeared to stumble (almost felt like what happens when an engine has an intermittent ignition 'miss'). I am hoping that the problem with the strange engine stumble/miss/surge is also the reason I don't have cold air coming from my vents, but I probably won't be so lucky.
It's been suggested to me that a possible problem is the nylon distributor gear being worn - the A/C would put more stress on the distributor causing the miss.
Barring that could it be a bad A/C clutch? Compressor? Any ideas what I should check first?
Thanks!
Mark.
