Default Ensure cam sprockets can turn on taper but not tilt?

WTF does this mean. I am doing my first tbelt, water pump , and tstat on my 1994 90s. I have done tbelts on my 944T before. The Porsche cam sprockets have keyways. I don't understand what this means. Any guidance would be helpful. Oh yeah... Do I need a gear puller for any reason?

Default It means...

...that the cam sprockets must be loose enough to rotate on the tapered end of the cam shaft (there is no key) but not so loose that they slide forward on the taper. You may need a small puller to free the cam sprocket from the cam.

<Queue responses saying that is it not necessary to adjust cam timing>

Cam timing is critcal for maximizing engine power and effiency.
