Default Erratic Idle? Idle Screw Hole?

Hey there,
My 1988 90 Quattro 5 speed has an erratic idle. It constantly jumps up and down from about 900-1300 rpm when warm. From what I have gathered, it may be a dirty/faulty idle control valve, but I have also heard of an "idle screw hole" What is this? Where is it? It is mentioned in this helpful page here but with no explanation: http://www.20v.org/engprob.htm

Suggestions?

Thanks

I had a similar problem with my Datsun 280 many years back the problem was the injectors, they were toasted and needed to be replaced
