expert exhaust advice needed

Ok, I'm designing the exhaust for my v8 conversion...
So far I'm starting with dual 2.5" downpipes and high-flow cats. After that, I can either run two pipes to the rear with two center resonators (yes, there will be a cross-over after the cats) or do a 2 into 1 3.5" after the cats and just one center resonator. I'm not going to use a rear muffler becuase my buddy cut the rear cans off his 2004 S4 and it's not too loud at all. Sounds *sexellent*
After crunching some numbers, I came to the conclusion that, while the 3.5" pipe has the same cross-sectional area as two 2.5" pipes, it has 50% less surface area in the pipe which means 50% less parasitic drag on the exhaust gases = better/faster flow.
The 3.5" will also be lighter, require only one resonator and look possitively frightening hanging out the back of my 90
What I'm wondering is if one of you hooligans has had this type of dilema before and agrees with the philosopy. I'm also curios to know if the single terminal pipe makes things sound better or worse...I'm predicting it will sound just plain evil.

Once you cross from the duel after the cats to the single a sufficient amount of force is aplied probably making the car spit out faster and with a lot more air flowing out one hole a little louder. I would go with the single. But I like the idea of a single cat too, even less piping. Magnaflow has high flow cats with dual inlets and a single outlet, it is what I am running on my car.
