Default explain this......

just for curiosity while my car was running i undid the elec plug to the isv and to my suprise it didnt change a thing! it idled the same and everything. i was expecting it to go haywire. i left it off and restarted the car and it fired right up. what the hell is going on, shouldnt it idle like crap if the isv is not plugged in? I also hear a slight humming noise around it whether its plugged in or not, not sure if that means it working or i have a air leak. can anybody explain? if it doesnt seem to change the idle, what good is it?

Default At what temp was the engine? Already Warmed up? ;O)

The ISV is in-effect mainly while the engine is warming up, going through its "cold" stage.

Once at operating temp, the electronics take over.

Sound good? ;O)

Default still cold

from a dead cold engine it starts, runs choppy then settles down a bit. used a volt checker and its getting power so it should be working. plugged in or unplugged it doesnt effect anything, it still runs the same warm or cold. hmm, this is strange.
if I tried this on my v6 it would be jumping all over the place, i've tried it once.

Default knock sensor maybe?

can the knock sensor give it a rough idle at startup at all or does that only come into play once its running to keep pings at bay?

Default Well, "warm" can be relative. It's almost summer, so the ambient temp is higher. Try it when...

the temp is about 10 or 20 degrees and you may notice more of a difference.

It also could be that you have enough other air leaks in various places leading to the intake that the ISV is not having an effect when all is taken into account.
