which is faster - A90 2.8V6 or 1996-2003 A4 1.8T???

ok, stock the 2.8 has more power, and a faster at top ends. 1.8T will be quicker.
but all you have to do is chip that 1.8T and it will smoke a stock 2.8

1.8T 97-2000 - 150hp
1.8T 2001-2003 - 170hp
12v 2.8 - 172hp

i would take a 1.8T over a 2.8 anyday. a chipped 1.8T has like 200hp and will walk a 2.8

a chipped 1.8T will be close to my modded 2.8, which i spent a lot on...a lot more than what it costs to put in a chip ! having said that, i would rather have my modded 2.8 than a chipped 1.8. the 2.8 doesn't have to work as hard and will probably be more reliable in the long run. if you ever supercharge or custom turbo the 2.8...and expose it's real power, say goodbye.

My mods were done in Toronto -- BBR Sportsline did the heads etc, exhaust manifold and got me the 268 cams from eurospec and Leitner and Bush did the throttle body and matched intake. "Maintenance" work was done by Chuck at Superior Transmission -- that included head gasket job, new lifters, new oil non-return valves, oil pressure relief valves, etc. etc.

It is worth it if you have the extra money. If it's all the money you have, I'd say get your priorities straight first ! My car is far from done !
