It appears that the rear calipers on my daughters '95 90 Quatro are frozen. The outside of the disk is not wearing. What is the best way to free up the slides?

I recently dealt with this on my Coupe. I had a single caliper slide frozen on a front brake and a rear brake.
I started by removing the caliper from the bracket and then the bracket from the car. The slide pins will be contained in the bracket. I mounted the bracket into a vise (Carefully) and used lots of PB Blaster (or liquid wrench) and a socket to turn the pin.
The caliper pin on the front brake was frozen so bad that it never did come out. The one on the rear eventually came out, but it was too ugly to put back in (slightly bent). That being said...in both cases, I ended up getting new caliper brackets that come with slides and new boots. The rear one for the coupe was $40.00, the front one I picked up used from a buddy for free.
If you need parts...I use blauparts.com

very common. Just FYI, Autozone has the rebuilt calipers for about $75 each. Best price I found. Note that's just the calipers, not the carriers w/ guide pins.
