Gasoline smell

I have a 1988 audi 80 that a couple of days ago developed a strong gasoline smell inside the trunk and interior of the car. I have checked for leaks under the car and have moved the tank as far as I could without removing the fuel line to check the tank for leaks. I ran my hand along any areas of the tank that could not see and detected nothing. The two fuel lines at the bottom of the tank and the vent look good. I also replaced the gas cap. I have run out of ideas. Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the same exact problem with my car, and i did the same exact things to try to fix it.....turns out that there was a hole that had rusted throught the tank, which caused gas to drip into the back of the trunk...out of sight though.....after some time (about 1 month)....so much gas filled in there that it activated the drain in the trunk....to it to my audi specialist and he had it welded for $200...AND now everything is good......hope this is ur problem
