i just changed my valve cover gasket and put new wires in. i removed my distributer to shim it up to stop rattle and now it wont start! I rotaed teh engine and got the cam timing sprocket right on and the flywheel read right on O. i installed the distributer in the proper location with the mark..right on. NOW i have spark to my plugs and i got fuel...but it still will not start!
SUGGESTIONS???
fouled plugs from trying to start a billion times??

Are you absolutely sure you have fuel + spark?
Have you pulled the codes?
It sounds like you're all too familar with how sensitive the distributer adjustment is. In my experience if the ECU isn't happy with one of the many parameters (eg. Hall, position, speed sensors) it wont fire the plugs or the injectors.
Typically if you get one or the other firing, then the problem lies with the driver to that particular device. That is, fuel but no spark, the problem is the coil or downstream to the plugs. If there spark, but no fuel then look into the injector drivers and resistor packs. (typically though if a driver or resister fails if'll generate a fault code and the ECU may not give spark or fuel)
Anyway, I guess none of that really helps too much, but if you really have both fuel & spark then clean the plugs, and let it all dry out and it should start.
good luck.....

i will double check for fuel. reason i say i have fuel is because when i was trying to start it with the timing way off i pulled my plugs and they were saturated with fuel.
I will remove my plugs and check the status as i air out the cylinders and clean the plugs. Thank you for you help!

I have the same problem with my 80 coupe quattro, spark, fuel - wont start.
I took it to an Audi guy who checked everything and the last thig seems that the ECU is goosed. - Actually pointing toward the Injector Drivers. They are keeping the injectors open for 27ms - should be between 3 to 5ms on starting.
I dont know where to get the components that I need - Large green Capacitors marked "105K100 NCC k"
Anyone want it for spares
