Default this guy says older Audi's are $$ pits, somewhat true?

"I don't think it would be a good car for a young person...safe , yes, but a money pit to maintain...he'd be better off in a Golf GTi 16V or like a subaru awd type of car...and look cooler too. At that mileage on a Audi (upscale VW) most everything will need attention very soon and be pricey...a sweet car though...in its day. They were close to like 60 grand weren't they, new?"

Default read it again...

its a guy replying back to a fella who was going to buy a 89'90q I think with 130k. The guy just told him at that mileage its going to be alot of $$ to fix and to avoid, but if he wanted AWD to buy a sub. He also basically said 90's are not "cool" for a young person.

notice in his car list he has an allroad though.

Default Buying older Audi...

Older Audi's are great if young person has:

1. Spare time and motivation to troubleshoot problems.
2. Has tools and know how to use them.
3. Has some garage space.

In that way its not very expensive to maintain an older Audi. Except some crazy priced dialer-only parts, but they don't fail every day.

Otherwise greedy mechanics will rip that young person apart and take all of his life-savings.
No matter that car it is, if its import and you don't have clue - you are done!
