Default Had some work done by a audi tech and was curious about parts pricing

Should the prices for the parts the tech used be comparable to the prices found on online parts places?

Default No way. That's how people make money.

At least double the online price. Mechanics make money by buying at wholesale prices and selling at retail. A lot higher than online.

He should be charging you list price, not on-line discount pricing.

Default 2nd... Most shops get cost and have 3 options for MSRP based on a percentage...

This is why a lot of shops wont install customer owned parts (they will tell you it's a warranty thing blah blah blah, it's because there bread and butter is the parts counter!). Dont get it wrong though, this isn't a bad thing. I actually will spend a tad more on parts just to keep my local shop alive.

"I actually will spend a tad more on parts just to keep my local shop alive" - I won't.

Default Well, with fans like you we'll see how long these independants stick around ;)

Not to mention half the parts places you spending money at online are going overseas. Spend a little of your money in america...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I understand the argument.

I actually try to spend as little as possible on my coupe, and in the case where I do have to go to the shop, it is because I do not have the tools to do it.
