Default I was thinking of the possibility that they may eventually break

If one(contact) were going to fail I wouldn't want an electrical short or possibly loose or arcing contact anywhere near the tank any spark can iginte fuel vapors...
Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but there have been people speaking of leaky tanks and stuff a short while back...
the one in a million combination could make for toasty rear passengers!
I'd probably do it anyway but just be certain there is some failsafe in the event of a short.
Just my thoughts.

Default Not possible...Yes, the elements can break, but they are attached to the seat covering and cannot

"fall away" from them. Also, its not much of a current or voltage, and if a break does occur, it defaults to "off" (too much resistance).

I have never heard of a leaky tank. Corroded lines yes, leaky tanks no.

If it was a problem, Audi would not still be doing it after around two decades (the 5ktq, which was an 1986, had them, don't know when they were first introduced but the PN is a type43 listing).
