Default Heater Core DIY?

Hey guys, new to the forum!

Helping a friend revive his '93 cs90.. he wanted to trade it in for some POS from the dealership. I was devistated! So I agreed to help him get this thing back on the road and in the best shape its been in for years.

Anyways.. first on the list is the heater core and blower motor. I used to search function to no avail .

Anyone know of a good DIY, or has done this before? In this car, it looks like I'm going to have to pull the entire dash! That true?>

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Nick

The DIY posted above is correct. It's easier to replace a transmission than this clusterf***. Disconnect the hoses where they go into the firewall and connect them together with a piece of pipe and clamps. You don't need heat anyway it's summertime!

It's really not hard at all, just very time consuming. First time doing it alone would probably take ~12 hours. I had help and it still took around 8 hours. Really depends on your skill and if you have help. Straight forward other than that.

Thanks guys! I've done one on a 1985 e28 (5 series bmw) and it was a complex headache! I made it worse by trying to get to it without removing basically everything.

This time around.. no expense or time spared!

Cheers

BMW E30 is basically the easiest heater core switchout I've ever done. The Audi was the biggest pain in the a**. Especially with the pass side airbag which luckily you don't have.

I was wondering about the pass airbag.. didn't think this one had it. Nice! haha.. Yeah the e28 was about 500% worse than the chevy blazer I did.. But I'm already imagining this being that much worse. Should be an interesting look with the whole dash out!

P.s. anyone have a parts car?? (I'll need some goodies!)

I did my brother in law's 96 Blazer, did it without completely removing the dash, but it was still not as bad as the Audi. The Audi I did had a pass bag. Then to top it off, the outer firewall lower nut spun on the inside. Yea, that was a good day. I don't think Mitchells gives you 12 hours to remove the motor and trans. Oh well, good luck with it.

Oh yeah, one other thing. Check the foam covering on the control doors(if it's still there.) If it's gone or disintegrating, it would be wise to replace it. Something like aluminum foil tape works pretty good, although it does make it a bit noisier when the fan is on.
