Default you're right, I started "simple" then got more & more complex then arrived back....

and settled on even simpler than my original plan which was just to use RTV or cast my own 60 Durometer Shore A hardness urethane seal that floated on the spherical ball but was cast directly inside against and adhered to the lower half bearing housing that surrounds the spherical ball. Then I went to machining provision for o-rings that would "wipe" the spherical ball and seal against it as it moved around. Then about a constant evolution of 200 or so other possible solutions before last nights final "stumbling" on to the definitive answer.
