my ABS light is on....meaning not working.....verifyed by skidding accross a dirt road
now, i replaced the following with known working parts:
-Combi relay
-Hydraulic unit relays
-ABS computer
-inertia sensor
-ABS on/off switch
-Diff lock controller
before i did all that, the ABS light would come on, stay on, and not go off....
NOW it comes on, GOES OFF for about 30 seconds, and then comes on....any ideas?? i REALLY dont want to replace the hydraulic unit tho....
also, the diff lock doesnt work.....i know that ties into ABS.....so i will look into it....
ANY BTDT's? thanks!!

go to the dealer ( well maybe not this part ), get the plastic caps that go over each senser, spacing them correctly and see if this fixes your ABS light problem. sometimes its just a combination of a dirty sensor thats worked itself closer or farther away from the notched ring on the hub.

-First inspect each wheel sensor!
Look for loose, or broken wires, etc.......
-Remove, clean & reset each wheel sensor!
This requires you to jack the car up so you can spin the wheels. You need to spin the wheels to feel the sensor and see if its hitting. You can feel it through the sensor by holding the ABS sensor, and moving it in or out, where it goes through the hub.
-Then see what happens!
Many, many, many times ABS problems is simply one wheels sensor out of 1-2mm adjustment! ;O)

ABS was pissing me off to no end, and I, who have never been a fan of it, snipped the wires going to the sensors. Yes, I know this sounds extreme, but how far are you willing to go, how much are you willing to spend before it becomes economically unviable? When I looked at the whole picture I realized it just wasn't worth it, and besides, in the winter I would rather have my car pointed in the direction I wanted it to go. Not in the direction of a guard rail when the all intelligent ABS kicked in. ABS can be helpful, but it simply cannot be used to its full potential (or the potential most people think it might have in itself) without traction control as well. So, after four beers I went outside and snipped all the wires. The brakes have never given me a problem since. The ABS was a bad manager in a good company. No grinding, not even a light. Beautiful.
