Default Help needed, rattleing noise is still there!!

Engine makes rattleing noise, it`s coming under the valvecover and I can hear it over every valve. It gets louder a few minutes after cold startup.I changed all 8 lifters and new oil(Shell Helix Super), but no use.I measured oil pressure, it`s normal -5bar at 2000rpm. I`m out of ideas, can anyone help me?

Did you properly change the lifters? IE leave them in oil with the correct end pointing up, install them, then wait 30min before starting the engine?

The ones I have waiting on install in the 10vt were shipped in individual bags filled with oil. I'll still let them soak in oil before installation, and will wait at least 30min before startup.

Other than that, if its definately coming from under the valve cover, did you tighten everything to spec you may have loosened in the head. Also, have you listened to your distributor (not a likely source of noise on a 2v/cyl engine).

Definately need to better pinpoint where the noise is coming from before we can be of much help!

Default Replace your check valves......

A very common problem on early V6 engines the check valves in the cylinder heads blow apart and do not restrict the oil flow. The updated part is a plug .Replacing these WILL stop the lifters from ticking there is one in each head I would change them both .

Yes, the lifters were delivered in oil and I installed them filled with this oil. After a few seconds after startup they all started to work
normally. But after 2 minutes of work the rattleing sound starts again.

Default Where are they exactly?

Could you describe where exactly are those check valves, can I access them by removing valve cover? The engine is 1,8 4syl.I think thats the only solution for my problem.

Default The noise is a little louder over 1 and 2 syl. valves.

At first there is some ticking, then the ticking gets louder and finally it smoothly starts to rattle - I think the lifters don`t get the pressure they need.Looks like the old lifters were fine because they made the same noise. What could be the reason. The oil pressure measured from head is 4,2 bar at 2000rpm.

Default MY bad I thought we were talking 2.8 V6

No check valves on the 1.8 sorry to mislead you .
I guess if I would have read it better I would have seen that you only changed 8 lifters.

Like I said, did you wait the prescribed minimum of 30min before startup?

Sounds like you are going to have to pull the valve cover off, and check all the bits.

Default I`m not sure this is the real reason.

I skipped that 30 min. part, and installed them
right away, but installing the valve cover took me about 1/2 hour.I checked some postings from the past and someone said that the lifers must sit in oil 30min. before installing them.Is it possible, that lifters get some air during "bleed down" and the air get`s traped into them and the lifters will "jump".
