Default Bah...here's my method.

Drive car up on ramps.

Spend 30 seconds dropping the belly pan.

Place large sheet of cardboard underneath engine.

Place drain pan above cardboard.

Wrap Walmart plastic shopping bag over oil filter.

Use extra large pair of Channel Locks to remove oil filter, utilizing said plastic bag to catch oil.

Open drain plug.

Allow oil to drip for an hour or two, perhaps using a jack to angle the car sideways a bit.

Apply copper washer to drain plug.

Torque drain plug to 30Nm.

Fill with oil.

Check level with dipstick.

Drive around for a couple of days without belly pan on so I can watch for leaks.

Spend 45 minutes the next weekend putting on belly pan because it is a real PITA.

Default Re: why drop the pan?

and wouldnt driving up on ramps leave some oil in? Unless it is full ramps for all wheels.

I spend maybe 20 minutes or less doing an oil change. I even get out the same amount I put in.

I'm not dropping the oil pan--the plastic belly pan.
