Default how many led bulbs should i buy for the instrument cluster and aux gauges?

there are 9 bulbs in the middle (they each have there own little squares, not sure the actual name). there is 1 bulb for the temp gauge left of the tach, correct? there is 1 bulb for the gas gauge, correct? 1 bulb for the clock. there is 2 bulbs for the tach gauge and 2 bulbs for the speedo gauge correct? 1 bulb for the mpg gauge in the middle, correct?

so i need to buy 17 red led bulbs? or do i need to buy more? *edit* i forgot i prob need 3 red led bulbs for the aux gauges (1 bulb for each gauge).

post about the led bulbs that was recommended

Default I cannot tell you how many bulbs there are total. However...

The trip computer uses two bulbs. These bulbs are 1.5W IIRC, so they are a differant wattage than the rest. The clock uses one bulb, I can't remember how man W's it is though. The auxillary gauges in the B3 use totally differant bulbs than the cluster bulbs. They are just push in bulbs bought from almost any auto parts store. There may also be an LED replacement for those on the site as well. Does anyone know how much light these LED bulbs will put out compared to stock?

Default Um, why would you put red LEDs behind the idiot lights in the lower part of the cluster?

They're clear glass bulbs that light up different color based on the color of the idiot light.

There are no 1.5W bulbs they're either 2W or 1.1/1.2W for the autocheck/trip computer.

Default Yep, with exception of the trip computer, clock, and autocheck. They all have red bulb condoms

except the autocheck has a yellow condom on one of the two.

Default On pre-late '94 B4s yes, they're all clear with the exception of autocheck/trip computer...

...they use red covers (for the red on the autocheck and trip computer) and amber covers (autocheck only).

That's what makes the the late B4s look more red than orange is the red covers (behind the main & aux. gauges)...

Default If you want to do the turn signals as well add 2 more.

I counted a possibility of 21 to 22 or so bulbs that can be replaced on a number of cluster/aux gauge combo's. But the question becomes, do you want to convert all the lights to led, you may be overdoing it. If your check engine light happens to come on, do you really want it that bright, especially if you have to drive it around for a couple of days b4 getting it sorted out. Same goes for directionals, every left and right hand turn that you signal for will be right there in your face. Food for thought.

I would experiment with it first, maybe replace all and see what can stay and what can go. Maybe start with the just the illumination lights (night drivinig) and go from there. It's all up to you, but at $1.59 a bulb it shouldn't be that hard of a decision.

Default Agreed. However, I don't think we know the brightness of these LED's yet.

Also, LED's use less energy than a similar brightless filament bulb.
