When it gets warm (too low on freon). Recharging simply adds more freon to bring the system back up to operating pressure, making things chilly again. LATERS!

Cool, thanks! I haven't done anything to it in 3 years...it still blows cold
I just wanted to check and make sure nothing would break if I didn't get it recharged. Thank again.

Bentley should desribe the proceedure of checking the system
There should be a little spyglass in the A/C hoses wich allows you to look for bubbles or streaking in the refrigerant while the system is on. If you see such things, the system should be checked for leaks, and recharged.
