Default Hydraulic/Power Steering Fluid, what kind?

Hi, currently I have a small leak in my power steering system which has been fixed. But I am in need of topping off on new hydraulic fluid.

I read the manual, and it mentions to use a specific fluid/or equivilent. I also wen't to Autozone and they didnt have a clue on which fluid I would need for my car.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!
Lex

Default remove much as you can with turkey baster, add in mobil 1 ATF

repeat process later for cleanest fluids possible.

Default nice car, did you try searching at all? been beat to death..u need pentosin..

i believe the part # is chf 11s. You can get from some online vendors like autohausaz.com has it for $13, or you can get it from any audi/vw dealer.

Default It seems that this is the only forum on AW not embracing Mobil 1 ATF as a Pentosin replacement.

I'm thinking of trying Mobil 1 ATF in my CQ's steering system when I replace the bomb soon. It's been used for years by some AWers. It's said to swell seals and slow/stop leaks, and thins out less than Pentosin at high temperatures, possibly protecting racks/pumps more when they need it most.

It is also said to be ok for topping off purposes, mixing with Pentosin, but I'd personally only do that in an emergency - so it may not be relevant to Lexius' needs, anyway.

This is all internet hearsay, of course.

Default A little confused.

Sorry, I did try searching but didn't find any real topics on hydraulic fluids for the coupe.

Out of curiosity, what is this "bomb" in the steering system you are talking about.

Also, isin't Mobil 1 ATF Transmission fluid? I'm kinda confused, sorry.

As for the Pentosin, this is to be mixed 50/50 with the Hydraulic Fluid?

Thanks!

Default Here's the LD

Your car needs a Mineral Hyraulic fluid. The most common brand is Pentosin, and the label says CHF-11S. I believe that the VAG part number for this is G00-2000, but not really sure. I've never heard of using transmission fluid in place of mineral hydraulic, so I wouldn't risk it. Go to your local Audi/VW dealer and ask for mineral hydraulic fluid, they should know what you need, there is no mixing...pentosin is the brand-mineral hydraulic (CHF-11S) is the product.

As for the bomb...Click here
In fact, you should brows the whole site...20v.org for answers to all of your CQ questions.

Splendid coupe BTW
