Default I can hear my valves when I accelerate and the engine is warm --

often on older cars you can hear the valves pipe-up a bit when you accelerate -- if you're in a low gear and the rpm's are low or you're cruising and hit an incline and have to give it some gas, you can hear the valves tick a bit while the car struggles to accelerate in a gear which is a bit too low for the speed. Mine is doing this I noticed lately. What is that a symptom of?

No offence, but how many of your 379 posts are dedicated to valvetrain noise?

In what condition are your knock sensors?

Default sounds like you're thinking same thing I am... when he says words to the effect of "when you're...

in a low gear and the rpm's are low or you're cruising along and hit an incline and have to give it some gas you can hear the valves tick a bit while the car struggles to accelerate in a gear that's a bit too low for the speed...."

Sounds like engine knock to me... pinging, pre-ignition or it could be piston slap. But one things for sure, the engine won't be with us much longer if thats the case.

Default Re: Have you ever read your cars DTC codes? No, I haven't.

I'll get the codes checked and see what we find.

how far up your *** is your head? I'm trying to solve the problem step by step. If you had read the posts, then you would understand that the real problem occurs when I try to run 268 cams. I'm not just being picky about the valve noise. Each time I post, people come up with suggestions and I take action on those. Eventually the problem will be solved. Your problem, mr. thermonuclear, will apparently take a team of specialists armed with cattle prods to remedy it.

cheers.

Default I've read some previous posts on knock sensors, but I'm afraid I'm not 100% clear on how they really

work and how they might be causing the noises I'm hearing -- could you please expand a little on what pinging, pre-ignition and piston slap are and what causes these things? I'm trying to determine how worried I should be...
