Default i turned on my seat heaters, for the 2nd time ever, and it smelled burnt..problem?

i got the audi not to long ago and the previous owner never used the seat heaters. when i turned them on this summer, i didnt smell anything, and the seat seemed to heat up (not always easy to tell on a summer day). Today, it was real cold out. so when i turned them on, it smelled horrible. A cross between something vintage, and a forest fire, if u can picture it. Is this because i havent used them much, sorta like when u turn on a thermopump when it hasnt been used in a while, doesnt smell to great..They have been turned on 2x in all. i know its better to use yer car then make it sit, but would the same apply for seat heaters? could they somehow mess up cuz of lack of use?

All know is i dont want to start a fire under my ***. Should i start em up a few more times and see if the smell goes away or could i cause more harm then good? Thanks
