I was wondering if a smaller or more efficient AC compressor can be used on ....
the CQ's & B4 sedans? The OEM ones are huge and heavy. Do the early A4's carry the same big compressors?

B5 A4s have the exact same compressor as B4s.
I don't know about later models, but I bet it's the same story. There have been no major advances in AC technology in a while, just refrigerant changes.
