Default Ignition switch or starter?

Hey everyone,

tried to start my car and as I turned the ignition key nothing happens (just dash lights). Did it again, nothing. Third try, started right up. It was not cranking over. Question: In your opinion, is it the infamous "ignition switch" or starter? They both seem to be easy to replace but do need help diagnosing!

Thanks!

Make sure your ground is ok then test your starterby jacking up your car put your key to ignition switch to on and go under and get a thick wire maybe #18 and try to direct start it.

sounds like ignition switch, they are not that expansive, a bit of pain to replace.

Thanks Yuriy,

I'll be replacing it this week. Hopefully it will cure my electrical issues also!

BTW: Thanks "greasegun" for your suggestion. Starter is good to go so I'm focusing on the ignition switch.

I had something similar happen on my coupe. After changing the ignition switch I found that the wire from the switch to the starter was broken near the connetor at the starter. It looked fine as the insulation was still holding everything together just no continuity... Started just fine after I crimped on a new connector!

Good Luck
