Installing O2 sensor w/ 20v.org directions. Is step #2 (removing 2 plugs) vital?

Installing O2 sensor w/ 20v.org directions. Is step #2 (removing 2 plugs) vital?

Default the 2 plugs is for OEM sensors, universal just get

spliced into the original wires

Some guy on rennlist.com (944 board) said that it wasn't a good idea to splice the connection by soldering it. He claimed that the oxygen sensor pulls fresh air from the wire to replenish the "reference" part of the oxygen sensor. He said the proper way to do it is use their special universal connector system. Supposedly he worked in the oxygen sensor department of Robert Bosch. This sounded like a bunch of hoo-ey to me!

No soldering for me just spliced and used butt connectors..so far so good...gas mileage got better...22 city...

crimped connections or solder, at the DIY level achieve about the same thing. A few of the engineer and audi-trained mechanics talked about this on the 20v-list. Ideally, you'd have a special crimping tool to make the connection...

where did you get the O2 sensors from? 3 or 4 wire?
