i've been having some idle/rev problems recently on my '90 90Q20v, but didnt try to do anything about it until now. i read on 20v.org that unplugging the electrical connector to the ISV will help determine if its the culprit. well, i tried that, and the engine dies, every time. does that mean my isv is really screwed up? not the problem?
i guess i'll describe my problem so you can understand it better. when i'm driving around town, just normal, and i shift to neutral to stop, the engine dies. lately, i've just been heel-and-toeing it all the time, to keep the revs up. it happens more during cold weather than it does on these somewhat warmer days, if that matters.
any input is greatly appreciated. thanks.

The idle is a little rough and its died twice in the last week while in neutral at a stop light. I also took the advise from 12v.org and unpluged my ISV, just killed the motor every time!

If the motor dies or the idle gets worse when isv is unplugged that means it is not "totally dead". In other words you have ruled it out as being the whole problem. It can get dirty which will cause it to malfuction but not usually break totally. I think you may have fouled plugs or bad o2 sensors. Also try and get a fuel system clean at a shop.

It sounds like you have another problem that the ISV is compensating for, like a vacuum leak. On my V6, I could unplug the ISV and the car would run if it was warmed up. I could not start it if it was cold. My problem was the ISV, but the system is adaptive, so a progressive problem will go unnoticed until the ISV can't provide sufficient compensation.

i'll check the vacuum lines and other fuel related items, hopefully i won't have to replace the isv... college $flow doesnt really leave room for that.
thanks again
