You don't have to take out the tranny to change out the slave cylinder and I don't think you'd want to install a slave cylinder with a bent rod and missing the boot. $53.11 at autohausaz.com. Can be a pain to replace as you have to compress the cylinder at the same time you are trying bolt it in. Patience is key with replacement and bleeding, but doable.
