So I finally got around to building myself a VAG115 fault code reader, thanks to a diagram found at audi20v.net. I was surprised to find that there was only one fault stored on the CPU, which was 2144, knock sensor #2.
I cannot find the part on rockauto.com, and from 034Motorsport the Audi replacement lists for $270 per unit.
The little sob is hiding behind the fuel pressure regulator, driver side, else I would tear it out and give it the ol' look see.
My friend found this VW/Audi knock sensor that lists as an alternate part for my car (1990 90quattro 20v) and it is only $30, but I am skeptical. Does this look like it will work? Has anybody used something like this in a 20v I5?
E-bay link here

Yes you can use the bolt through style knock sensor in place of the stock one piece sensors. You will also need the bolt. Green one would be the #1 closer to front of the motor Bosch 0261231038 Blue one would be #2 closest to the firewall Bosch 0261231036 I'd search ebay with the provided #'s you can get a real bosch sensor for about $30-35 shipped. The bolt size is M8x28mm and the audi pn# is N0102336

Awesome guys thanks; I think I am going to go the Bosch route if I can get around buying the one piece senors. Looks like I'll have to move the fuel pressure regulator to get at #2. Have you guys changed these; can you get the proper torque without taking too many things apart?
Again thanks for the help guys, greatly appreciate it!

Cool, found both sensors (bosch) from germanautosupply on E-bay for $60. Even though #1 still may be good I might as well change it for $40.
However I am having trouble finding the proper bolts for this setup. It seems the parts supplier wants the thread pitch measurement in addition to M8x34mm. Though I have not tried to get the part through the Audi tech yet.
Can I use a bolt that can be found at a hardware store?
thanks again
