I have put 112,000 kms on my 2001 S4 and really have had no major problems besides driveline seals which were covered under warrenty. I know you have researched the S4 forum so I need not say more.

who drove the S4?
It seems any younger driver prolly beat it. I don't see to many old ladies driving a S4 once a week to church. Kinda like back in the day it was hard to find a VW GTI that had not been abused. Both the cars you mentioned would be a blast, good luck.
