Default maybe jumping the fence and getting a e30 325ix........

and letting the 80q go. Any personal experiences with the ix and comments on these cars? Audi AWD vs ix AWD? The '91 80q is real nice and in great shape (PNW car) but I'm just not up to keeping the dark blue clean anymore.

Default no...it's fluid viscous.

It has a constant 37%front 63%rear power distribution until wheel slipage. It's supposedly got more rwd handling characteristics than an Audi's tendancy toward FWD type handling (front wheel plow/understeer).

My brother drives an e-30 325is, and it's a pretty nice car fit/finish wise. The major downfall of these cars in the non-galvanized bodies...you see a lot of these cars rotted out.

Default yeah the rotting is a very known problematic portion of these cars

I love the design of the e30's and think they are cool cars. I bet the e30 ix's are hard to get a hold of these days, just maybe be aware of that as well for parts and things. But then again I know so little about the BMW world just an observation.

Default All the info around seems to be that quattro > ix in poor weather, though ix is more "fun".

I'm a long time BMW guy and have a 1st gen M5, a 2nd gen 3 series, and used to have a 1st gen 5 series.

The 325iX works pretty well - people that have them like them.

The problem is that they're a black sheep amongst BMWs. Everything on them is subtly different than normal E30 stuff. The transfer case uses some kind of belt in it. The engine has a bunch of specific to the 325iX parts on it (oil pan, for sure).

Basically you're getting a car that is very unique amongst BMWs and not a lot of expertise nor spare parts for them. It's kind of like owning an early M car but not having the prestige/fun/whatever of an early M car

I'd stick with audi's for AWD vehicles. Every part off of every audi seems to bolt up to every other audi. And any audi worth looking at is quattro anyway, so its not like the mechanic is going to be confused if you show up with an awd car.

Default I have a review from back in the day and although the ix was more fun and had more power...

...the quattro was superior in the snow...
