Default One's "The Cone" type. The OEM, which goes inside the airbox is the "panel" or "square"

The "cone" type filter is the "upgrade" everyone does. It replaces the entire airbox. You must remove the entire airbox to install the "cone".

Plus you need a "MAF adapter" to mount the round cone to the MAF.

You can see the MAF adapter as its bolted to the MAF.(black item)

TAP(www.tap1.com) sells a cone "kit" which includes everything you need to install a cone.

You NEED the adapter, or else the cone type filter will NOT fit!

Default No apapter, the cone cannot be attached!

The MAF has a flat face, surface where it once mounted to the airbox, like a counter top flat.

The cone is a 3 inch "round" opening. There's no way to mount the round end of the cone to the flat MAF without an adapter.

You could possible "cut" the MAF to make the cone fit, but then the MAF would never be able to bolt back up to the OE airbox!

Default Right..but what I'm saying is the filter that goes in the box..

The one to replace the OEM....does it make a difference in performance (i.e. i know the adapter takes in more air) but the one in the box (K&N)does it make a difference or should I just leave it alone...the sales person said that they take the K&N and add an adapter to it...but if I buy on without the adapter will it fit into the box? hope I'm clear

Default Normally there is no performance gain replacing OEM filter with a K&N square panel, because.........

The airbox is whats the limiting factor.

This is the main reason folks get the "cone".

By removing the airbox, you get a slight performance gain.

What you gain with installing the K&N square panel, is the filter can be cleaned & reinstalled, vise throwing it away every so many miles.

Default Honestly.....

I felt a pretty good gain in the drop in K&N element.
