Default The 3 Options

1. You can paint the original crome surround black for an all black look. (The most popular approach)

2. You can buy a Kamei grill insert which is black mesh with a black surround.

3. You can paint the surround black (the chrome will have to be etched and primed well)and remove the plasic slats by drilling out the plastic weld points - these hold the chrome plated plastic surround to the plastic slats replace them with black mesh held by either self-tapping screws or a two-pack epoxy glue.

I've looked at doing option 3 myself but it looks irreversible - a good quality mesh is needed too.

Good luck

Heya Miktip!
Since I have the B4 hood waiting for my CoupeQ
conversion, I don't have the grille! I'd rather
have a stock grille than the Kamei grille.
Wanna sell me your original?

Paul

You could consider cutting around the mounting bosses and leaving enough plastic to give them enough support - just cut away the slats and tidy with files/finishing paper.
It's a good days' work but that's why those Kamei grills cost so much!

Remember that if you decide to paint the grill black it's going to be attacked by stone chips so you're going to need a good 10 coats of paint on a well primed surface.
