I have been interested in making a career change into working on Audis. I have no auto tech experience, but am incredibly motivated to get into the field. I figure I should do something I enjoy...cars are my passion...and Audis are my first love. Any suggestions on what I should do to steer myself in a positive direction?

I'm actually semi-retired, but get paid as a "tech-rep" & "QA Rep" by the airline industry.
My background is Aviation. Began as a mechanic over 22 years ago.
Audi mechanics began for me about the same time. I realized automotive systems are far more simple to repair then commercial airliners, and thus began my automotive repair background. My primary motivation, I could save Lots-O-cash repairing my own Audi! Which, back then, was a 1981 5000 Turbo, owned for 14 years.
To become a "good" Audi mechanic, you must first have an above average interest, in the field.
Read every book you can on automotive repair! Then develop your trouble-shooting skills.
Have a mechanical ability & skills to work with hand tools. Namely good Hand & eye coordination.
Good "common sence" is a must!
Dont be a "hot-head"! You need to be able to work through problems and not simply get angry at them.
Have an "awesome" set of tools!
Above all, instill in yourself a high sence of pride about your work, and a high standard to do the job right each & every time!
The same high level of professinalism I have working with commercial aircraft, I use in my repair of Audi's.
Way too many "dealership" mechanics do half-*** work! They are suppose to be the "cream of the crop" when it comes to Audi repair. Far too often
they fail even at simple tasks. Another reason I repair my own Audi! I have quite a few horror stories from dealerships attempting to fix my Audi!
Become a sponge, and soak in everything you can about Audi repair. This forum is a good place to hang-out, as many items get discussed here.

You are absolutely correct. I am an Audi Brand Specialist in Reno. I make my clients buying experience a pleasure. I treat them with respect and like intelligent human beings.
Audi will not put up with old-school ******* salesmen. Consumer Satisfaction Index ( CSI ) is closely monitered for the dealership and for each salesman. A new car or Audi Assured purchase is followed up with a phone call from Audi. If the questions they ask aren't answered in a favorable way, you get a bad score. This affects the dealership's allocation and my money.
My CSI is excellent, therefore I have access to all the S8s, S6s and Allroads that I want.
I make a very good living, enjoy my job emensely, and have mostly repeat and referral business from all over Nothern California and Nevada.
It is also cool to sell the best car on the road! I own a 1997 A4 2.8 and a 1995 90 Q sport. I am a reformed SAABist.

my dad is a good mechanic and im trying to learn from him, knowlege is power.
he says, read everything and learn from other people's experience. 30 years of a/c repair, car and boat mechanical and body repair... i wish i can do that.
although audis still suprised him, i took a 500 mile trip 120 mph, he was damn suprised. since the cam sprocket is marked incorectly the belt/cam was off by 2 notches.....

Guess What....they are still *******s here in Chicago when it comes to the dealerships. Hubris is defined in Websters Dictionary as Chicago Audi Dealerships.
