This shows all the final pieces pre-machined to be installed in the rear of the 12V drivers-side cams. Its all there to mount the Hall Sensor for cam timing.
Stock AAH cam on left has the M8x1.25 thread pitch hole while gun-drilled AAH cam on right has a big enough hole to drop the entire sensor hex bolt into "head & all." To get it back to a useable configuration I do an internal thread on the inside of the cam bore. Then I machine and thread a 7075 sleeve with the same threads on its OD as I've done on the cam ID. I leave the inner/outer threaded sleeve longer than necessary so once its LocTite'd in I can machine it down to match the stock cam detail and have it be perfectly flush with the cam end. The LocTite is the high-temp/high strength as this sleeve will NEVER come out again for any reason. I use 7075 aluminum for this because 6061 would not be strong enough to hold the factory torque setting on the bolt without stripping. 7075 can hold a 25% over-torque with no fear of stripping. But I only torue "to-spec" and not over but far rather have the strength and never need it than need it once and not have it. You can see the .875" 7075 solid rod stock that this sleeve was turned down and threaded from sitting atop the 2 cams.
I'll go finish this up and be back with with completed cams in an hour or so.

My 90 will truly be "Enhanced by Mance" when it's all done. I was looking over my mod sheet and your name kept popping up next to a sizeable portion of the upgrades I've done so far. Can't tell you how much more I enjoy the 90 now. Thanks again.
Enjoy the weekend.
Enjoy the weekend.

them earlier in the week. Your pair was pictured and bores shown in the "micro-polished" post earlier this week. The set in these pics are someones in California and there's 4 more pair being done simultaneously destined for Canada, Idaho and 2 european destinations... Austria and either Sweden or Switzerland. As of today all of these are done and will ship Monday.
But your set is virtually indistinguisable from this set or the other 4 pair. I just got hit with a TON of gun-drilled inquiries last month. The over 1700 pairs of strut mount inserts I sent to Europe has made me a popular guy over there. They're all asking what other mods I make/offer and now they're lining up for the other stuff. Its been a VERY good "2nd quarter/06" for me 'round here! Best ever by FAR!! I've got mod orders lined up thru the 3rd week in August and thats NEVER happenedbefore. And its EVERYTHING I make not just snubbies, throttle bodies or mount inserts. Sure makes the days fly by!
I need to invest in a few longer gun drills as the european guys are begging me to gun drill their 5 cylinder cams and over-bore some they already have. If I was doing those I could've taken another 20-30 gun-drilling orders.
Look for yours on Wednesday but e-me which address you want these sent to.
Thanks,
M

but I have to have the perches here to confirm. I had to do a set for a pair of Koni's so I made a second set for the new style Bilstein perches which now appear "very" similar to the Konis. If these work they'll leave here the day after I gettem.
This pic shows them. Small end fits within the solid mount spherical bearing and large end sits atop GC perch/Bilstein shoulder.
As long as I'm having fun I'm still retired. Long as I'm making Audi widgets I'm having fun. Tis a GREAT system ;-)

I'm almost done with the cylinder heads so hopefully I can get those installed this summer along with the TDL unequal length headers. In the next week or so the Eibach Pro-Kit springs should be going in too assuming I catch up quickly from being out of town.
In addition I just picked up a 77 CJ-7 in immaculate shape for an unbelievable bargain minus wheels and tires. The wheels and tires on it now need to be returned to the previous owner since they were borrowed from his Ford Bronco to get it to my house. There are a few mods I have to do right away before I can mount the 35's. The jeep has to be ready so I have something to drive while the Audi gets massaged.
Glad to hear you are back and settled in your new home. It was good to see you posting again. BTW, F'n great job on the coilovers.
