Default Motor Options for Swap..

ok i am really looking into a motor swap and getting a motor is not hard at all...but my question is...What one should i go with?Which is easiest to do? I am doing all the work myself and this is not the first swap i have done.I hjave performed many hybrid swaps in hondas and acuras.....I'd like something that won't take a year to fabricate stuff for it..

I was looking at S4 motors and stuff like that and i definately want 230+hp. How easy is it to get this out of a 20V Turbo?

PS-my car is now a 2.8 12V V6...good poer but defiantely not enough...

Depends on the time, money and effort you want to spend on such a project.

You can put in virtualy any engine. However you'll need to become an expert on that engine and its supporting systems.

I've seem a Audi V8 transplanted! Stock 270hp!

Why not a 1.8T? Small, lightest of the Audi "performance" engines. Lots of potential!

If I could, I'd go with the twin turbo V6 S4 motor!

Default Re: my two cents

I would go with the 1.8t too
my best friend has a golf IV with stage Iv...330+hp..front mount intercooler all the goodies..even it you didn't put stage IV...you still could have 240 pounds of torque with an apr chip..and exhaust..
If any thing is planned for engine transplants for me I would install an audi tt 1.8t 225hp stock..with endless possiblilies...and if you were really crazy... Dalback racing has a 1.8t pumping out 574hp...new technology...definately the way.. to go..forget the old s4 and rs2 stuff..they lack the top end technology..thats currently available..but thats just my two cents...and if you have a quattro like me the car is heavy as hell and it certainly would help to lighten the load with a smaller engine...

Where are you getting your motors from? I'm having a really hard time finding a 20v turbo.

Anyway, 20v Trubo could get over 230hp very easily with a chip from TAP (adds 65hp). Replace the wastegate spring w/a stiffer version, port/polish heads, free flowing exhaust. I don't know exactly how much to expect with all this, but rest assured, it's more than 230hp.

the 1.8T has crossed my mind but it is less power stock...the S4 seems to be my front runner that i am looking into...Will the motor BOLT UP? they look like they should. I also have thought of the V8. Does my tranny work on all these motors(S4, V8)?Actually i'd get the S4 6-speed with the motor but how about the V8? the cars engine bay looks almost identical so that should be an easy one right?

Like I mentioned before, you'll need to become an expert on a specific engine and its supporting systems.

A swap of that nature is not some thing which takes place very often, if at all. Experience in that ball park is very rare.

I can talk shop about installing a manual gearbox, where once an automatic stood in a 93 90.

Alot more research is needed for an engine swap!

I have an 88 audi 80 with a 99 1.8t motor from an a4. I thought of using the 20vt 5cyl but mileage cost the fuel injection and the weight was not worth the trouble. there is so much out there for a 1.8t that can make it out perform the best. I only have a chip filter and 3inch exhaust and my friends 90 sport quattro can not even stay close to me. If you want any advice or have any questions I will be happy to help.

88 audi 80
1.8t
chip filter exhaust
95 sport quattro interior
custom stainless exhaust
